How I Pack for a Wedding Day

April 26, 2017

I am heading into my fourth wedding season this Saturday and I have to ask myself, am I ready for this weekend’s wedding? Will my bags be packed and ready to go for the first wedding of the season? I guess we will see but I thought It would be fun to share my process in getting ready for a wedding with you all!

Here are all the gear items that get packed in my bags:

  • 5Dmarkiii (primary camera)
  • 50mm 1.2
  • 35mm 1.4
  • 85mm 1.8
  • 70-200mm
  • 100mm macro
  • 3 extra batteries
  • 2 battery chargers
  • 6 memory cards
  • 600EXII-RT
  • AA batteries
  • 6D (backup camera)

The night before the wedding I make sure that all of my batteries are charged and memory cards are formatted so that I won’t be rushing the following morning. I just got a Kelly More bag this past Christmas and am excited to be using it at a wedding for the first time this weekend!

Then once I know that the gear is ready, I make sure to stop at the store for water and snacks in case we get hungry during the day. Often times, my second shooter and I are working straight through lunch so we will either stop to eat on the way to the wedding or eat one of the snacks we packed right before the ceremony (if we get a break). Anything beyond gear gets packed in a Thirty-One bag that I have had for years and that has tons of pockets which are very helpful in keeping everything organized.

Over the years I have found that packing these extra items is helpful:

  • granola bars
  • fruit snacks
  • energy drinks
  • water bottles
  • bug spray
  • band aids
  • gum
  • chap stick
  • ibuprofen

I add to the extras bag all of the time and am currently in the process of collecting items to use for styling details. My hope is to share that with you all in a future post. One thing is for sure, I think I am going to need a bigger bag!
