What Details Should Be Photographed On Your Wedding Day?

July 20, 2020

As you are planning and preparing for all the things that will be photographed on your wedding day there is one thing that you do not want to overlook, the details. I’m talking about the photos of your wedding day that are of the small details such as the rings, flowers, invitation suite, bridal shoes, dress, etc., the list could go on! Gathering all of these details in a box set aside for photos on your wedding day will be a huge benefit to you. That way, when I come to photograph your wedding, everything is in one place and nothing will be missed.

As small of a part that details play in the grand scheme of the whole day, they are a wonderful way to showcase the style of your wedding. You’ve probably spent a lot of time choosing your colors, flowers, dresses, table settings, and invitation styles and it all deserves to be documented. Detail photos beautifully compliment the rest of the gallery and highlight all the things that are important to you in particular and that you spent a lot of time on.

Rings are expensive and gorgeous so why not show them off in a beautiful ring box next to your invitation suite? You’ve probabaly spent a lot of money and time deciding on flowers and don’t want to forget how stunning your bouquet was so set it aside to be photographed! Maybe there is a handkerchief that has been used at every relative’s wedding for the last 30 years. You do not want to miss getting a photo of that which is why I recommend placing everything you want to be photographed into a box.

And to help you fill your details box below is a list of common detail items you can use to check off as you go along.

Common Items To Be Photographed In The Details:

  • Engagement ring and wedding bands
  • An invitation suite that has not been stamped or used
  • Bridal shoes
  • Veil
  • Jewelry
  • Wedding dress with a nice hanger
  • Floral bouquet
  • Loose flowers to arrange with
  • Garter
  • Heirloom items such as a handkerchief or locket
  • Any other floral arrangement
  • Perfume bottle

My particular approach to photographing details is to use whatever my client has in addition to some styling pieces that I bring along on the wedding day. I love to capture the essence of my clients wedding style through the detail images so I will likely use anything that has the wedding colors in it to help accent the photos in an authenic and true way.

When arranging and photographing the details, I always make sure that I get the following photos…

Typical Detail Shot List:

  • Rings individually
  • Rings with all the details
  • Rings on the invitation suite
  • Floral arrangement individually
  • Floral arrangement with all the details

Whatever it is that you place in your details box will certainly help in telling the story of your beautiful wedding with depth and meaning. Use the list above to check off items and think creatively about how you want your details to be presented on your wedding day. I will be sure to take it all and create beautiful photos to help you cherish and remember your wedding day right down to the little details.
